Live Well Foundation of South Lake’s Executive Board Member Susan McLean, RN has spent more than four decades shaping healthcare and wellness in South Lake County. Before joining the South Lake Hospital boards, she helped establish Lake-Sumter College’s first nursing program in 1982, serving as its inaugural director and achieving a 100 percent graduation rate in the program’s first two years.

Susan joined the South Lake Hospital District Board of Trustees in 1988, a pivotal time when the growing community had outpaced the hospital’s aging, landlocked facility. She and fellow board members made the bold decision to purchase what ultimately became 180 acres along an undeveloped stretch of State Road 50. Their vision paved the way for a new hospital campus designed to meet the needs of current and future residents.

Throughout the 1990s, Susan helped lead community and government support for relocating the hospital, which opened in 2000 with a 68-bed facility and a full health, sports and education campus. A strong advocate for prevention and education, she championed the development of Clermont’s National Training Center and supported continued education for healthcare professionals.

She also guided land donations for the Mike Conley Hospice House and the Community Foundation of South Lake. In 2019, Susan transitioned from hospital leadership to serve as Grant Committee Chair for the newly formed Live Well Foundation of South Lake which has invested over $70 Million dollars into South Lake County Florida over the last 7 years. Susan truly reflects the Spirit of Health and Wellness in our South Lake County Community.
