Title IX at 50

It’s been 50 years since the U.S. government passed a series of education amendments aimed at improving equal access to education. Within that series was the landmark Title IX, which protects students from sex-based discrimination. While Title IX is best known for promoting gender equality in sports, it has many other far-reaching impacts.

Panelists: Nancy Hogshead-Makar, J.D., Barbara Jo Palmer, and Marlynn R. Jones, Esquire

Facilitator: Mary Baer

This year marks the 50th anniversary of the passage of Title IX, the law that requires all federally funded educational institutions to prohibit discrimination based on sex. Title IX opened a new world of opportunity for the generations of women since its passage, inspiring a movement for equal opportunity in classrooms, playing fields and boardrooms. Join us as we pay tribute to the impact of Title IX and reflect on 50 years of progress, while also acknowledging current challenges — and the potential for the next 50 years.
