Davie

Senator Lauren Book (Davie) is an advocate, educator, mother, and public servant working to make things better for women, children, and survivors of sexual assault. A best-selling author, EMMY Award-winning producer, and the Leader of the Florida Senate Democratic Caucus, Lauren is a two-time graduate of the University of Miami, earning a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Creative Writing in 2008,and a master’s degree in Community Psychology and Social Change in 2012. She sits on the Florida State wide Council on Human Trafficking Direct Service Organization Board, the Florida Children’s Cabinet, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Public Safety Commission, and the Florida Centennial Women’s Suffrage Commission. Among many other titles, Lauren is also one of the 42 million survivors of child sexual abuse, and a tireless fighter for the 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 5 boys who will become victims of sexual abuse before their 18thbirthday. In 2007, Book founded Lauren’s Kids (LaurensKids.org), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit foundation top revent sexual abuse through education and awareness and to help survivors heal with guidance and support.

The goal of this study is to identify key issues facing women, understand critical needs women and their communities perceive as important, build trust with constituents, and highlight the diverse viewpoints of all segments of the population from across the state.
