Lady Dhyana Ziegler, DCJ, Ph.D.
Commissioner Lady Dhyana Ziegler DCJ, Ph.D. of Tallahassee was appointed to the Commission by Governor Rick Scott. She is currently the Interim President/CEO of Florida Virtual School for the Florida Virtual School (FLVS). Prior to joining FLVS, she was the Garth C. Reeves Eminent Scholar Endowed Chair of Excellence and Interim Dean of the School of Journalism and Graphic Communication at Florida A&M University. She has also served in several administrative positions at FAMU including Acting Vice President for Research, Assistant Vice President for Instructional Technology and Distance Learning, and Interim Director of the Office of International Education and Development. Prior to moving to Florida in 1997, she was the Associate Director of Diversity Resources and Educational Services for the Office of the Chancellor at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and Professor of Broadcasting where she is a Charter Inductee in the African American Hall of Fame (1994) and is the only African American elected President of the Faculty Senate in the University’s history. She also served as the Chair of the State of Tennessee’s Advisory Committee to the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.
Lady Dhyana has worked in higher education for more than 30 years. She holds a B.S. Cum Laude in Journalism and Music from Baruch College, City University of New York, M.A. in Radio and Television, and Ph.D. in Academic Administration both from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and a Post-doctoral Certificate in Management and Leadership in Education from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education.
Lady Dhyana is a seven-time Governor’s Appointee from three different Governors and is currently immediate past-chair of the Board of Trustees of the Florida Virtual School where she’s a five-time Appointee and a two-time Appointee to the Florida Commission on the Status of Women. She has also served on three Foreign Service Selection Boards for the U.S. Department of State (2007, 2010, and 2014) and one for the United States Agency for International Development (2012) evaluating tenure and promotion of Foreign Service Officers. She is a member and past- chair of the Board of Directors for the Southern Scholarship Foundation, University Center Club Board of Governors, and the Public Member Association of the Foreign Service. She is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Delta Kappa Gamma. Lady Dhyana is the author of four books, more than 60 scholarly publications including book chapters, refereed journal articles, professional publications, and has produced more than 100 videos and other multimedia productions. She has made presentations at more than 100 national and international conferences including Oxford and Cambridge Universities in the United Kingdom and has been awarded nearly 6.5 million dollars in grants.
Lady Dhyana has received numerous awards and recognitions for her contributions including being knighted as a Dame of Justice in England in 2008. In 2012, she was honored as one of the Women of Distinction in the area of Education from the Girls Scouts of the Florida Panhandle and was selected as one of the 2014 Trailblazers by the Oasis Center for Women and Girls (just to name a few). She was just recently featured in the 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century (9thEdition) published by the International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England, 2016 and was selected for the Education Award as one of the “2017 Women on the Move” by ONYX Magazine. She also received the first ever Leadership Legacy Award from the Florida Virtual School in 2017. Lady Dhyana is the President/CEO of ZCreators LLC, a multimedia production company specializing in advertising, video production, education consulting, training, and coaching for federal agencies, corporate executives, and politicians.Back
