Commissioner Karin Hoffman of Lighthouse Point has a family-run business, Sonshine Educational Tours, founded by her mother, which has been serving educators and students throughout the nation with educational field trips for over 30 years.
Within the industry of educational travel, she pioneered and is the current President of the first state trade association for student tour operators in the nation, Florida Association of Student Educational Tours, championing the cause of maximizing the education of Florida’s students. This past fall, F.A.S.E.T. hosted the task force to address the issue of assessments in Florida, held at Keiser University. The task force brought legislators and educators together for a constructive dialogue on solutions to reduce testing in Florida.
While Karin was a teenager, her family lived and worked in Children’s Home with the Salvation Army in Mexico City. Returning to the States, she obtained her A.S. in Physical Therapy from Broward College, followed by a B.S. in Human Resource Management and, also, a B.S. in Biblical Studies from Trinity International University. She enjoys working together with her husband, Greg. They have one son, Josiah.Back
